Reykjevik?

I'll be in Reykjevik in a few months, and since it's such a famous chess country, I wondered about local tournaments.  How would I look up options?  And what's needed for a visitor to participate?  I've never played outside a USCF event, so I don't know what memberships, etc are necessary.  (Does one become a FIDE member the way one becomes a USCF member?  I don't think so, but what else?)

And are there child- or beginner-friendly events (for my daughter, who also plays)?

What else should do?  Does the site of the Fischer-Spassky match still exist, and is it worth seeing?

Enjoy and safe travels!!  Never been, can't really help.  If you don't figure it out here or on the internet,  I suggest the local library.  Always a great place to visit anywhere.
