O-O# isn't possible here, tell me why @pentective
I think I have found the solution by the way, and the solution does in fact involve the movement of either the king of the castle (h1) I was doubting myself for no reason after all
yes. if it is white's move, where was black's king before g2?
if black's last move was a piece taken by white, i can't see how the move sequence (with the castle) is illegal.
Yeah that is basically correct, can you try to guess what the last move was for white before Kg2? @ghost_of_pushwood
Personally I think black's king was on h3 before g2, there is another reason why it is illegal @AICzervik can you find it out what it is?
The problem is not blacks last move (the king came from either from g1 or h2 or h3), but whites move before it. The only way Rh1 could have checked the king was because it moved to h1. That is the reason why it can no longer 0-0 at a later stage in the "game". The future choice of 1. e3 or 1. Rf4 or 1. Re5 is irrelevant. Your colleague is wrong!
The general principle is that of the "proof game" - there must always be a proof game. Whatever you play in any solution to a standard chess problem, it must be possible to construct a legal chess game from the game begiining to the diagram and onward with the solution moves. If such a game does not exist then either the problem is incorrect or your solution is incorrect! The latter is more common.
@Arisktotle Yes that's exactly the answer, when I told my colleague that either the King or Castle ahd been moved he told me it's not correct in the sense that it's not quite the answer that he was looking for and it needs to be more specific just like the explanation that you gave me
"The only way Rh1 could have checked the king was because it moved to h1. That is the reason why it can no longer 0-0 at a later stage in the "game".
He later gave me the answer that's why I was abled to agree to your answer as it was the right one along with the explanation
@CRRYSIS I appreciate that you took your time to read the problem

Er... so people, I know this is M2 puzzle (1. Re5 Kxg3 2. Rg5# with Kxg3 being the only legal move after Re5),
but I also noticed 1. e3 Kf3 2. O-O#, and I thought this should also work as long as the King and Rook (h1) have not yet been moved, but one of my chess colleagues says that 1. e3 Kf3 2. O-O# doesn't work and it's illegal and it's not because the rook (h1) or the king has been touched...
Has anyone got any ideas...?
