Are you greedy?
Qg6+ Be5+ - and then win queen, rook and knight for a bishop - that's the line I played in the game.
I do agree, queen, rook and knight (at the end of this variationf as well) for a bishop is an awesome exchange...
...but, as I told, black had actually allowed something more interesting then just heavy material advantage.
If you want to talk about being greedy, the least you can do is grab the h6 pawn before forcing him to give up the queen.
1. Qg6+ Kh8
2. Qxh6+ Kg8
3. Qg6+ Kh8
4. Be5+ etc
I suppose not, you have the bishop on c4 to dislodge the king from h7, so fair enough.
I'd grab it first though because it's almost like I'm taunting him. I know I can have your queen, but first I want your pawn.
You don't need to instantly grab the h pawn after Qg6+ Kh8.
But taking the h6 Black pawn after 1. Qg6+ Kh8 2. Qxh6+ is really greedy.
3. Bxe6 and it's all over.
Best defence for black seems to be 2... Qf6, not Rf6, this leads to 7. Qxh6#
So the pawn gets grabbed!
Actually, if black plays perfectly, you don't need to take the h pawn at all!
But the title is 'Are you greedy?', and capturing the h6 pawn is really greedy considering that this does not need to be done for the same winning outcome to be achieved..
Many things can happen, one of which may go
1. Qg6+ Kh8
2. Be5+ Rg6 (2...Qg6 is no solution either)
3. Qxh6+ etc.
Nah it's mate in six, with best from both.
Black has 3... Nd3+ to delay check, so it's six.
1. Qg6+ Kh8
2. Be5+...
- - 2... Rf6
- - 3. Bxe6! Nd3+
- - 4. Rxd3 Qf8 (forced, protects h6)
- - 5. Bxf6+ Qxf6
- - 6. Qg8#
- - - 2... Qf6
- - - 3. Bxe6! Nd3+
- - - 4. Rxd3 dxe6
- - - 5. Rd8! Rxd8
- - - 6. Bxf6#
At least one line ends 6. Qxh6#, so the pawn might get grabbed.
But no need, and perhaps no need to grab queen either.
Wait, it's 7.
1. | Qg6+ | Kh8 |
---|---|---|
2. | Be5+ | Qf6 |
3. | Bxe6 | Nd3+ |
4. | Rxd3 | dxe6 |
5. | Bxf6+ | Rxf6 |
6. | Rd8+ | Rf8 |
7. | Rxf8# |
Oh check that out, I can copy/paste my moves directly from my board as a nice image.
Anyway, 5. Rd8 in the second line above doesn't work because of 5... Nd7
So the above line is, I think, the best play from both.
Well, in game I went greedy as well, ending winning half of black's pieces after this move,
