Well the solution is 1. Re7+ Kf8 2.Rxf7+ Kxf7( 2... Ke8 3. Re7+ Kf8 Qf6#) 3.Qf6+ Ke8 Qe7#
Can anyone see why this solution was wrong?

Yes.
3. Re7 isn't checkmate and 3. Qe7# isn't a legal move.
I can't follow any of that discussion... in what world is 2...Ke8 a move?? This means black moved the king on move 1? What?
You could play 3.Re7# or 3. Qe7#
You already pointed out this mate in post #4, and 1cbb already told you 1.Bxd8 Qxg7 is mate in post #9, which you acknowledged in post #10...
I just realised taking bishop is bad bcuz of Qxf6
Qf6 is not a legal move, and there's nothing on f6 to take...
3. Re7 isn't checkmate and 3. Qe7# isn't a legal move.

Oh, 2...Ke8 in the main line.
Understanding the discussion was much harder than solving the puzzle ![]()
3. Re7 isn't checkmate and 3. Qe7# isn't a legal move.
