     Here is an interesting position for black.

He would like to castle but does the white knight make castling illegal?

even if the knight takes the queen, black can still castle. Purely a unrealistic situation but tricky riddle.

 Actually Black also cannot castle if The white knight takes the black rook. But the king would have to clear all the other pieces if it wanted to perform a queenside castle.

Black can castle! If only the white knight protects g8/f8, black can't. I know that game. Petroff's Black there, right? but believe it or not, PETROFF ACTUALLY DID IT AND WON!!!Laughing the game is Hoffman/A. Petroff Warsaw 1844. see for yourself

it is a very good Idea for black to castle. This game is Hoffman Petrov, where black mated about 8 moves later.
