nyLsel, the above problem is a legal one, only that white promotes so many pieces leading to this position.
When I was a kid, I compose a problem and made it to a national newspaper only to be greeted with bad comments following the week after it's publication. Yah, I made an illegal positon.

Wikipedia: "Economy is generally regarded as a good thing in chess problem composition, though exactly what is meant by it, and exactly what it is most important to be economical with, is open to debate. Economy of material or force (not using more pieces than necessary), economy of space (using the chessboard to its fullest, not cramming all the pieces into one corner) and economy of motivation (keeping all lines in the solution relevant to the theme) are all regarded as important."
This week's chess problem composed of Sam Loyd is a great example using his forces to maximum effect. Out of 32 pieces, he uses 29 pieces and the entire board presenting his idea!
Take note that no is piece is an onlooker. All is needed. Everybody serves a purpose. Every piece cooperates to give or help deliver checkmate!
Awesome puzzle!
