after 3. Re1; why can't Queen take the rook? may be i am missing something; but that looks like a Checkmate.

Chesscrazy127, that's a good example of a smothered mate, but isn't checkmate as white can play 2.Kxa2 and avoid the mate.

if 2. Kxa2 then 2... Ra7#

Hello everyone! I would like to share with you a chess puzzle from bruce pandolfini's book. Here it is:

White to move and win.

Of course promoting to a Queen or Rook leads to a draw!

Solution next Sunday. June 10, 2012.

Hello everyone! I would like to share with you my original 2-move chess composition containing pin and counter-pin!

Here it is: White to move mate in 2!

there is more to this puzzle but the editor would not let me add it so this is all  I could put...

This is a mate in 2. It's just one of my ideas.

Avatar of Asorski

Hey chessgm8. Nice idea but flawed.

1.Nc5 can be countered by 1...c6!, 1...Nc6!, 1...Rd1!, 1...Kd8! and 1...Kb8! preventing mate in 2 and winning easily for black. Also after 1.Nc5 Nd6 2.Rh8+ Ne8 3.Rxe8 is mate in 3.
