Endgame fun: 2
what another HOGWASH SIGN? so you say hogwash when my puzzle was half finished... so that means my other puzzle was bad too? o.O NM Reb can you just tell me what you mean =P
I think he mean that there is no way that puzzle could happen in real life on the board, don't worry about NM Reb he just being funny Lord Chaos.
oh right ^_^ thats a relief sorta. i didn't see the humour side of it cause i didn't understand it ^_^
Reb is probably referring (first and foremost) to the fact that your puzzle has nine white pawns. What is the point in solving a puzzle (the primary purpose of which is pattern recognition) if nothing like it could ever appear in a game?
i thought puzzles were just for fun, spotting mates and stuff, i don't actually use it to practice my chess! =D otherwise there would be loads of puzzles about traps and how theres a mate in this position so don't ever try to be on the losing side of it etc etc. naah, i just do it for fun, and it probably improves my chess a little by finding out tactics and stuff. any puzzle will test you a bit yes? thats how i improve, testing my self a little bit (well its hardly a test).
i suppose there are lots of puzzles out there which have commonly achievable positions, but i prefer these
. + puzzles like these also help you too.
Puzzles spotting mates, while for fun, have a primary function of pattern recognition. This puzzle could never help you, because you can never have 9 white pawns!
aaaw. but it tests your iq and makes you cleverer in the long run, not in the short run lol
i mean, yours helps in the short and the long run, but mine DOES help a little at least, if not none. im sure that these kind of puzzles do help a little? or nothing at all. and anyway, this is probably irrelevant, because these puzzles exist for fun mainly and hey i just make them and so people can try them and "have fun".
i give up the argument about these helping, your probably right anyway, whether this helps a little or not at all, if people want to improve using puzzles, this is not the one.
I don't work. I'm just explaining to Lord-Chaos that if you want to make puzzles, step 1 is to make sure the start position is legal. Step 2 is to make sure each move is optimal.
ummm it tests your brain, and it makes you "slightly" more intelligent (IN CHESS)
put it this way, if you did LOADS and LOADS of CHESS puzzles, then you would get better at CHESS puzzle solving yes?
so if you were given a puzzle, you'd probably solve it faster than normal...
so therefore your probably more intellingent in the art of puzzle solving...
and CHESS puzzle solving does relate to chess a bit... so it probably helps you A BIT. im not saying alot, but i cannot agree that it helps you in nothing.
It helps you with pattern recognition! That's what I've been saying! It helps in chess a LOT - but the puzzles have to be relevant.
Also, there is no such thing as being 'more intelligent in chess'.
Puzzles spotting mates, while for fun, have a primary function of pattern recognition. This puzzle could never help you, because you can never have 9 white pawns!
To me, the primary function of puzzles is fun. At any rate, I think with this one we've left any practical play-improvement benefits a long ways behind us.
Sorry Tonydal, I should have written that better... puzzles have two primary functions (if that is indeed possible) - fun and pattern recognition.
