hey guys,

I just got a new book - The test book of the bishop and knight endgames by Jerzy Koniowski - and it has 140 cool endgame puzzles.

So from now on, im gonna post one puzzle every two days for you guys to solve. First its easy, but then it gets harder and harder.

It is multiple choice, but you gotta give me a variation on why is it like that.

Enjoy!

Puzzle 1:

a) The white pawns are stronger than the bishop. White wins.

b) The game is a draw.

A!

1. b5 Bc8(no other place to protect b7) 2. f4! Kd3(trying to prevent f5) 3.Kd5! Bb7+(any other will be met with b6) 4.Ke5 and the bishop cannot stop both pawns

but what if black plays 1...Kd3 with the idea of playing Bc8 later and therewhile picking up the f-pawn?

EDIT: could some moderator please move that to the "Endgame Study" forum?
