Find the Imposter!

I've got three games here for you. However, in one of them a computer is playing the White peices. Can you tell which one it is simply by looking at it's style?

Below is the three games. Two very famous GM's play white in two of the games, whereas a computer called Deep Thought, plays white in one of them.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to smoke out Deep thought using nothing but your chess reading skills.

Remember it is the WHITE players style you need to study........good luck!

O.k, I'm going to write here so that others peoples answeras can't be seen in the same screen as the last game.

Because sometimes when I do the daily puzzle I can see someones answer at the same time as the puzzle.

While closing my eyes as to increase my ability to guess, finger landed on the first game! The FIRST GAME is played by a computer!

Other than trusting my luck, I really have no idea whatsoever! Great challenge, though Wink

So, hopefully this has solved that problem.

Go to my home page and look at my blog for the answers.

Lastly, you get extra bonus points if you get the names of the two mystery white players, and if you also manage to get the black players, well, you get a day off school/work. Don't worry I've organised it all with the boss man/woman :)

Apart from anybody called Jeff, sadly they still have to attend.

Goodluck, enjoy and goodbye!

I guess the idea was to spot the imposter only using your chess skills... Not to actually point the game an when it was played. That can be done easily using databases and there's no challenge on it Undecided

I would guess the first game because computers like e4! By using this logic you can rule out the third game The second game can be ruled out because computers rarely play the Italian. So that only leaves the first game.

Your good :)

I know that d4 leads to positional games, so, it's not a favorite for computers, but what about the Italian, do they not like for the same reasons?

You seem to know your onions, any ideas as to who played white in the other games?

No way Jose - number two is Jose Raul Capablanca. I've been waiting a wee while to use that pun!

Cheers, Ranigad!

I guessed the first game, though I didn't consider e4. White's moves in the first games were precise, some without an apparent reason until a few moves later. On the other hand, the other two white players were using strategic and conceptual positioning with a bit of what looked like style preference, something that was missing in the first game.

My hat off to futuremg23 for his analysis, much more practical than mine.

Cheers.

Well done!

When you said that some of the moves didn't make sense until later, therefore, reveiling a human stategy - it's not something I thought of myself but makes alot of sense. Thanks for joining in.

Did you get a fell for the other white players as you were looking. Did anybodies name come into your head?

Ah, but your honesty is unmatched!

I choose the Capa game because it had a complex ending which he converted expertly. From what I've read, people always credited as being the best for this, so I thought it would be a good example of his style.

Tals's game has the usual sacs and vigour.

With the compters game, it was the opponents play that I was looking at. I've heard that people tend to try and play strange positions against computers, I'm not so sure that is true of the example I used.

 Thanks for taking part!

How do you get the games on to your blog like this?  I have some that I would like to post but dont know how.

Maradonna

Hey there, Absolom. I posted this as a forum, but I imagine that a blog post would be just the same. Look at your reply box, see that icon at the far left, the checkered brown and tan one, beside the little tree, click that checered icon and your good to go :)

Have fun!
