Tony is too modest, as I expect he--and virtually any master--would rather quickly see any 1-move mate, especially when it is presented as a 1-move mate; even on a crowded board, there are always a rather limited number of moves that put the opponent's king in check. There have been occasions when masters have missed 1-move mates in the course of playing a game, but that's not really too surprising. It would have to happen given thousands, even hundreds of thousands of master-level games.
2-move mates are another matter, especially when the first move is not a check.
Is there any mate in 1's or 2's that cannot be solved by a master easily? It seems that most can be solved using process of elimination. If you know any hard ones, post them here!
