Hello Chess Friends, This puzzle was composed by signor james plachutta in 1862.

I think its the hardest mate in 5 you have ever seen and Its white to play and mate in 5 moves.

Take your time and post the answer.

Yes it's hard on this forum. Problemists will solve it quickly once you drop the name Plachutta. He is associated with this composing device which is easily recognizable in a diagram. Yet, it is a beautiful composition!

this is my answer. there are 2 solutions so far. but i only found mate in 8

i know it should be mate in 5... but i am not using any engine assistance.

You have to find an amazing out of the world move that ends mate in 5 and engines even cant find it unless you put the first move which is mind blowing.

By the way, this version is probably better because the 2 thematic bishop moves in the solution are both thematic tries in the diagram. Often these old problems can be improved on with the help of modern engines by eliminating complicated lines. And likely the criteria for judgement have changed as well. Playing a piece to a square where it can be freely captured may have been more appealing in 1862. And the knight on c5 made the problem harder to solve by inviting more active knight play on the king side.
