HOW DO I GET BETTER
the link to my forum to get better is

to clarify
#1 Duolingo is terrible for improving
#2. Don’t play bots
#3. just play and try and look at if the piece your moving would be able to be captured
#4. do some puzzles every day, Lichess has free puzzles for everyone
#5. Learn the basic queen mate, rook mate and ladder mate
#6. Do not bother learning the Sicilian or any other very rich theoretical openings
#7. Don’t over do it, as in don’t play too many games a day, because while you might start off gaining rating points, your brain will get tired and you will lose a lot of games until you turn it off.
#8. Do not have extremely high expectations, as I said previously, your mentality is one of the most important aspects in chess, do not think your going to play perfectly in a month, this will only demotivate you if you don’t accomplish it, however don’t have very low expectations otherwise you might not think your good enough.
If you wanna get to a decent level, buying simple books go a long way. I always recommend Winning Chess Tactics and Winning Chess Strategies by Yasser to my students.
If you are serious, lessons also go a long way. And this is coming from someone who didn't really rely on lessons. What I had instead was a training partner who was better than me in every aspect of the game, and we'd play sparring matches and read books about specific openings, middlegames and endgames. In a world where there's too much stuff out there, having a coach even part time can accelerate your learning by personalizing what you should focus on.
Ultimately, Ineffaceable's #8 rings true. Books, lessons, coach, YouTube will only help if you're ready to help yourself.
