I forgot to give proper credit for the puzzle above. I found this puzzle in the book Chess for Dummies.
It was originaly composed by W. E. Rudolph in 1912 and published in the French chess journal La Strategie.

Of course they can. This teaches the idea that locking up the pawn structure leads to a more drawish game.
