Useful in what way? If it's to improve your game, it has helped me see patterns and spot checkmates far more often. My biggest problem is blunders and puzzles has cut down on them. Puzzles also helps because it shows correct moves so it teaches me to think more deeply. Good question, by the way!

I don't know how many other players do this but I never play an online game until i've done a few puzzles to judge my state of mind. If I keep getting puzzles wrong I decide to avoid playing games. But when i'm seeing the puzzles in a flash I play some games. I just managed a winning streak of 11 games by doing this. The brain functions VERY differently depending on how much sleep you've had, how stressful your day was, etc. There is nothing worse than losing 7 or 8 games straight when your brain is completely frazzled! My rating is finally rising too since i've started doing this.

I came to similar conclusion just yesterday - I do a few puzzles to wake my mind up at the start of my day when I noticed the same difference as you! Thank you for sharing!
Puzzles have some value. But after you have seen the major tactical tricks (say, after 1,000 puzzles or so), there will be diminishing returns. Instead of continuing to binge puzzles, it would be better to work on another aspect of your game, such as endings or positional themes.

Solving puzzles is extremely beneficial because you are training to correctly(!) calculate and visualize lines / variations. When you get a puzzle wrong, it can be a great opportunity to improve because you can then check what move / idea / defensive resource you have missed.
Because of that, solving puzzles is basically a part of every chess players routine, if they want to improve.

This is a clearly false, but funny quote by Alexander Grischuk.
"Chess is 90% tactics, 9% psychology, and 1% everything else"
I almost believe it sometimes watching the Chessbrahs get into horrendous positions when they goofing around drunk whilst playing - then they escape like Houdini with a beautifil tactic and the game is won! 🤣
