Is the last move important in puzzles

In the tactics on chess.com you always see the last move that happened before the position, does this imply, that the tactic that it's looked for is just possible now, or it could it be a move that was possible before?

It may be, if you need to know if you are allowed to take e.p.

There is no functional reason but it may be an adaptation to a technical glitch in the tactics interface. May be even one that existed 10 years ago and is no more. But people will fantasize "reasons" for anything.

Wow thanks a lot for the insights in your thought process. I do of course a couple of them but it's definitely better to have a guided process.
