Agreed, but eating the pawn with the knight instead of with the bishop was a much better move and does not lead to mate faster.

Awesome puzzle. If the knight takes the pawn, though, white can just check with the rook and then mate.

wow ive seen alot of great puzzles on this sit but this one was the best. i was trying to find the fabled 'one pawn' the title mentions and just couldn't believe that checkmate in the end. absolutely amazing :D

Btw, the final position has a peculiar property. Not knowing the preceding solution you can't be sure that black is actually checkmated. Chances are about 75-25!
