It is possible for both players to checkmate (you didn't specify that the game cannot be a crazyhouse game). Three of these four mate-in-one possibilities are possible.
- White to move, mate in one
- Black to move, mate in one
- White to move, but black to mate in one
- Black to move, but white to mate in one

You can spoil every problem if you invent new rules like crazyhouse. Putting in some pieces out of nowhere...
I don't post variants BS. So it is a puzzle with the conventions of problem chess which follow the "normal" chess rules.

Oh ok, I just know there are some chess positions which can't happen in a game but people still make puzzles out of them, so if it was one of those white could win if it was his move.
