Mate in 2: Extremely Hard

Scratch your head in disbelief, but there is a mate in 2 here.

I can see mate in 3:  1. Rh2 Ka1 (or Kc1, it doesn't affect the next move) 2. Nb3+ Kb1 3. Nc3#

I don't see a faster way than this, maybe I am missing something?

1. Rh2  Ka1

2. Nc3  stalemate...  lol!

Is this a trick question like the other one you posted?

Two things seem to cry out: there's a pawn to be promoted (or not) and it looks like white can still castle. Not that I see a solution.

Are you ready for this?

 2. 0-0-0-0-0 Mate

1-0

instead of relying on obscure rules that are no longer in force, I think I'll just stick with the mate in 3.  still, an interesting puzzle...  I like that notation too 0-0-0-0-0!

Is that a legal move?

Nah, it's not a legal move.

My king is on his original square and hasn't moved and the rook is on its original square and hasn't moved, so i move the king 2 squares towards the rook and place the rook to the other side of the king, right?

Ah. Ok.

Nope. As a good rule of thumb, if chess.com's chessboard cannot do the move, it's not a legal move. You had to seperate that move into different gameboards because it's not legal.

In theory, that rook has already moved. It moved in the form of a pawn. You exchanging a pawn for a rook doesn't make it a new piece that's never moved before. Castling involves swapping two pieces that have existed at the beginning of the game and have not moved.

To legally castle, the King and Rook must be on the same RANK.  read the rules
Avatar of dalmatinac
Afther 1...e8=R and now  2.Kc2 and where is mate in 2??
Avatar of dalmatinac

 2. 0-0-0-0-0 Mate

  *it is not legal move*

THIS IS EXTREMELY TRASH
Avatar of redhotman

way to completly get people rattled up fo nothing but a useless bs move

I've actually heard of this castling once done in a tournament. But, it didn't result in mate like this one did, and they quickly changed the rules afterwards so that your rook and king have to be on the same rank.

next you're going to tell me that if I move my pawn two spaces you can take it like i only moved one!
