1. Kb6 Bxf4 2. P=Q+ Bb8 3. Qa4+ Ba7 4. Qxa7# is what i got

For the twin position, the f4 Bishop moves to c5, still mate in 3.

Can you find both?

1. Bc7! Bxc7 2. f8=Q+ Bb8 3. Qf3#

Nice puzzle.

What exactly is a twin problem? It seems White mates in 3 with any Bishop move, though.

Oh, I see your edit. Never mind

The second one has to be 1.Be7 B(any) 2.f8(Q)+ Bb8 3.Qf3#

Great, the twin is a little harder.

TWINS: two or more compositions consisting of almost identical positions but distinctly different solutions.

Well done, too easy, I think....

Ok the second one:

1. Ba7! Bxa7 2. f8=Q+ Bb8 3. Qf3#

Edit:

I missed Bd6! Going to have to do this over again:

1. Be7 works because it stops Bd6, right?

Avatar of David_Spencer

OK, that's what I thought, but I'm used to just seeing a position and then b) WB to c5 or something like that. I was typing my first post before there was a second diagram, so I thought I may have been confused about what one was.

Oinquarki, 1.Ba7 not only gives away the mate, it gives away the win! 1...Bd6 draws. That's why other Bishop moves fail in the first diagram.

I tried my hand at composing twins, here is my best effort:

Sadly the 1st is mate in 4, the second mate in 3. Dunno if tha

t's allowed..
