Mate in 4!

In this game, Wilfred Pratten turned his own pieces into bait while setting up a nice Queen SAC followed up by a two Knight finish! Maczynski never knew what hit him. After 18...Nf6, White would either be without a King OR without a Queen. Now, White just played 19. Qxh8. Can you find the four move win? This is an easy-intermediate puzzle. : )

I always play like this...Smile

Good finish.  White's pieces are almost all on the wrong side of the board.  Thanks!

How did the white queen get in the corner?

Mate can be much simpler buy moving B queen forward one square.  W bishop goes back to challenge queen.  B bishop moves forward to block king, and 1-2 moves till checkmate without having 2 kights.

What about:

1...Qxh2+
2.Kxh2 Ng4+
3.Kg1 Bxf2+
4.Kf1 Bg2#

I like this better because of the bishop/knight symmetry at the end.

You should add that as an alternative line.

With that huge of an attack, black was bound to sacrifice something to open it all up!

The king moved up the second rank, so it is likely they took one rook, checked the king, and captured the other rook.
