If f3 isn't made then Qxg2# protected by either Rook or Knight... where are you proposing white move instead?
If I made a mistake somewhere in either white or black's moves then please let me know, but as far as I can see this is the shortest path to mate for white and the path that prolongs the game the most for black.

After qh4, there'd be Bd6 which isn't as fast as the rook sac combination.

This happened in a real game of mine. The previous moves were ...Nd5 allowing the BxRf8?? Now get the mate in 6!
