Earlier White lost a Bishop due to miscalculation. Then Black consolidated by trading off both Queens. Now Black is attempting to win a pawn promotion to get back a Queen. Promote the e-pawn to Queen and find mate in 12 moves.

but, what if white sacs the rook for the e pawn???

Find as many correct moves as you can. The puzzle is simply to challenge your calculation skills. Getting better at calculating is a sure way of improving your rating. Don't worry too much about the length of puzzles. Use it to practice calculating. If you get a move wrong take a hint and move on.

I think you're referring to puzzle #37.

If the White Rook captured the e-pawn 3. Rxe2 then it would still result in mate by the same number of moves with a different solution. See diagram below.

For those that like long puzzles: Capture all Black pieces (and h-pawn) and promote the h-pawn to Queen in 15 moves.

Mickdonedee

Checkmate in 6 moves with your f-Rook.

Mickdonedee

Capture Black's major pieces in 13 moves.

Mickdonedee

Mate in 6 moves.

Capture the Black Queen and close the mating net in 9 moves. The puzzle ends at M2.

can't you get it to end at M1? All you need to do is Qh7 because it's protected by the bishop, and the king has no moves to get away that I can see

Puzzle #19: I think I ended the puzzle at M2 because Black's next two moves are time-wasters and a real player would resign rather than play them.

Mickdonedee

Mate in 14 moves.

The only way it's M2 is if black sacs a bishop into the king for a stupid check that does nothing, which is a move that no real player would make. All white needs to do is drop the queen right below the king because it's defended by the bishop. The king has no moves, and black has no meaningful moves to stop it. It has to be M1 unless they really think that somebody would just drop a free bishop to make the game last one more turn.

Alright, I'll fix it next time I get a chance. Thanks for your suggestion. [Update:] Puzzle #19 is now a mate in 10 moves.

Oh wow, I'm gonna be honest, I thought a bot ran this account. Sorry for making this into a bigger deal than it is, lol, I just get bugged by the tiny things. Thanks for listening to what I had to say, though!! I feel kinda bad and I respect the simple response.

Don't feel bad. It's good to get feedback from someone with a fresh perspective and honest opinion. I try and make my puzzles as interesting as possible with some sacrifices to spice it up.
