White Mates in 2.

delcarpenter

I generally do not like positions which appear impossible to achieve with two normally competitive players, but I believe I found the answer.

Spoiler alert: I show my solution in the next line.

1. White: Bxc3 discovered ck,  Black: Ra4xRf4

2. B-g7ckmate.

pie314271

I think it's 1. Be7++ Kg7 2. Bf6#

Lol I'm a beginner. And, I didn't go mad.

Boheme

1. Rxa4

... and then as far as I can see black cannot counter the threats of Qxd6# and Bh6#. I am more than likely wrong though, I don't do puzzles very often.

skilledwolf

1 Be5+ Rxf4

2 Rxf4#

There appear to be two mates, bwolfs one is the one I saw but delcarpenters one is good too.  y2721 I am afraid yours is wrong as he can go to h8 after Ne8+.

1. Bxc3+ Rf5 ... and then there's no mate in one available.

Wrong.  The point of Bxc3 is to allow the queen to support the bishop to g7 without being taken.  1) Bxc3+ Rf5 2) Bg7 mate like he said.

Of course, my bad... I guess I was much too fixated on finding fault in that solution. I suppose there are quite a few ways to solve this then, so much for "experts only".

surely 1...Qxh2 works?

I wouldn't call this puzzle a 'mindcracker', at any rate.

Hello everybody. Thanks for solving this "MindCracker" chess puzzle.

Commendation is here given to delcarpenter for cracking one key move. He found 1. Bxc3+ to be followed by 2. Bg7 mate!

Recognition is also awarded to bwolf93 for coming up with another key: 1. Be5+ Rxf4 2. Rxf4#.

Congratulations to you both!!

You know guys i'm just trying to make a 'MindCracker puzzle' and I think I'm too excited to show it to the world forgetting to check and countercheck the solution.

What I'll do now is to 'reconstruct' this puzzle so that there is only one key, post it here and it's solving time again!

I'll just wait for someone to crack the BIG key!

Also, I put 17 White pieces here so that computers cannot be use in solving this puzzle. Computer engines only accept legal positions.

So here it is, a reconstructed and a real 'MindCracker'.

White to move mate in 2.

Again: Beginners are advised not to solve this or you will go mad!

Only experts are welcome to solve!!

What about 1.Bec5...(whatever black decides is irrelevant) 2.Qe8# or have I missed a black counter to this?

Edit: I just spotted a couple of counters Yell such as blocking e file with a few different pieces

pieace

Kc8, Black any move, Kd7# I believe

Disgruntled_Sheep

@ai36 Black can counter with Bc6 and prevent 2.Kd7

pieace

black can interpose a rook wether Bc4 or d5

pieace

hmm, how about Nxb5 B a.m. Kc7

pieace

no, that fails to the other rook.  Be5 Rxf4 by force Qxf4#

Disgruntled_Sheep

GOT IT!!

Ba3! Offers a mate in 1 to all counters through either:

1) Bxd6# or

2) Bd4# or

3) Kxb7#
