I am interested, can you clarify? The position doesn't appear to feature any pieces on illegal spaces, so I assume you mean the initial position can be proven to not be reachable with normal gameplay? I agree it looks like a mess that would be unlikely to happen in a real game

Quite simply, Black has 16 men and white doubled pawns at the c and f files, AKA at least two captures of black men- which means that this position cannot occur under ANY sequence of legal moves.
