Good puzzle.
Post #1 is a simple but incorrect puzzle. Black has a choice on move 2 that mates in 3 as well.
Multiple choices in a puzzle always make it wrong because there is no way a solver can know which move was intended by the poster and the interface will reject any other move.

yes but it would take black longer rendering it a worse move and not the best

Except that it does not take longer 
It's slightly better. The 2nd move is OK now, but there is an alternative for the checkmate move.
