It’s been a bit of off and on but I’m getting pretty much the puzzles levels I’d expect and the inaccurate upward rating momentum for me has stabilized. I think the only weird thing that remains in my mind is the unclear information on the level settings.

I was using extra hard when we were in 1800 prison and lowered it to hard when we were released. I’m generally satisfied with what I’m getting now. The puzzles delivered are good but still a bit below my puzzle rating and I’d say the individual puzzle’s ratings themselves might be a bit high, on average.

I would expect Standard setting to more closely track with a person’s current puzzle rating. I know there’s still work being done but a bit more clarity on the range of ratings each level will deliver would be great. I was also curious if the individual puzzles get re-rated over time in concert with player’s results in solving them.

One of the goals is that eventually the member puzzle ratings will align more closely to game ratings and not 1000+ points higher in most cases. I haven't heard how closely the site hopes they'll eventually align, but it should be different when all changes are in place.

The ratings of the puzzles in the UI are not what's being used for the rating or selection algorithm. All puzzles have been re-rated on the back end. One of the upcoming changes is that the ratings being used are going to be shown in the interface.

has anyone from chess.com weighed in on this .. I'm around 2000 now getting a fixed diet of stuff that you typically only see early on puzzle rush ... I also am getting lots of ephemeral !! for doing obvious things while solving

The move classifications showing during solving is a few days old and I believe unrelated to the other changes.

Got it. I’ve seen you send something like that before and somehow only understand it now. lol

Thank you for keeping the communication going. Looking forward to final results on the system.

For the last two or three days I'm getting somewhat harder puzzles now again, which is very welcome. Some of them are at least in my rating range, some still too far away. But it's closer to what it was before all of these changes.

I need a puzzle to improve my middlegame and endgame

When the puzzle situation resolves, will there be a way to re-set one's puzzle stats?
My current "peak" rating sits at around 4,600, which is absurd and not at all reflective of whatever capability I might possess. It would be nice if we could re-set it to the default and work on it from there, once the puzzle selection and rating issues have been sorted.

Anyone can reset the puzzle rating right now via Settings > Gameplay > Training History

Nice one, thank you, I was not aware of that. grin

4 weeks and still no sign of the promised publication, nor the promised software changes. The puzzles are as unsatisfying as ever. Any update on timescales and plans?

Maybe this year

Hadn’t seen this thread before, was posting in other ones here about the same. Agree with the general sentiment. Saw the chess.com support publication on X about it. Let’s hope it gets resolved soon, at the moment player’s puzzle ratings feel quite nonsensical.

Doing my free five puzzles, I discovered that I lost 24 points for making the incorrect move. 13 point penalty is usually the max. I dont know if they deduct more for really dumb moves. Anybody else notice this as something new?

Yes, missing a one-move mate costs you the most points (kidding) tongue

The puzzles unfortunately stay consistently tough, but the penalty gets heavier the higher your tactics rating climbs. So if you’re losing a lot on a miss, it means your rating is already pretty high. Congrats on that!!

To wrap it up, I’d say we should also give the Chess.com team some time. Better to get the clean fix they promised than a rushed patch nobody’s happy with.

I've noticed some new puzzles being entered in as 2600 rating.

Like others I'm pissed off at this.

I don't want fake pretend rating and lie to myself about how good I am.

I thought this is why Chess.com actually has a two (parallel) tier points and rating system, where one is the gimmicky one going in double digits (23k) and the other based on actual puzzle solving skills. But unfortunately yeah, I mostly get served bad puzzles and am above 2k now.

I tried premium and set the bar high for myself and puzzles were fun.

But then I reverted back, and now the difficulty setting no longer works for more than one game. It just reverts back.

I guess its whatever little experiment they have going to get people to buy more subscriptions.

And all the time Chess.com had me thinking im a 1k elo GM for solving a 2600 puzzle.

They better give me that GM title or LAWYER UP
