Thankyou Martin.

Puzzle 2 http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=345969

EndgameStudent

Sorry ChristianSoldier007 and Yeres30, there are alternative winning moves. Unfortunately I'm looking for puzzles where there is only 1 winning move at each step of the puzzle.

Yeres30, please post potential puzzles here, rather than sending me a message, if you manage to find any more, so others can see the process you go through (also your account has been set up to prevent messages from non friends).

I'm quite happy to just have a link to a game and move number to start the puzzle, but please try to check for alternative winning lines with an engine. You can always play around with the board position to try to eliminate these competing lines and send me the new FEN.

EndgameStudent

I've altered the eligibility criteria at the start of this topic, to make it easier for everyone to find puzzles from their games.

Hello Katonas, Please find attached a position.  The puzzle is to find the next move for black, so it does not meet all your criteria.  On the other hand it is not so easy to find (I think!) and is quite satisfying when you find the right move.

Let me know what you think.

Solution: Black move 31: Qh6

Best wishes,

Hello again Katonas,

Sorry I made a mistake in my last post - it is move 36 not 31.  I have attached the moves from the game below.

Best wishes,

Mark Wasserberg

Hi Mark,

(i) puzzles must be from your own games

(ii) you need to ensure there are no competing winning lines at every stage of the puzzle with an engine. I haven't the time to do this for everyone on the chance their puzzle might be eligible.

(iii) I need an FEN or PGN to make it easier to check the puzzle in an engine.

Rooperi, please check any potential puzzles with an engine.

In this case, even I can see mate can be delivered with either the rook or queen at the end. Imagine the frustrated comments by people in tactics trainer...

ok, maybe the alternative Black try, which allows only 1 mate:

Rooperi, unfortunately 28.Qh3 (+5) is also winning for white, instead of 28.Be7! but don't ask me why, I'm not an engine. Even when you can't see alternative winning lines, its always worth checking. Its a shame because its a lovely puzzle, and your idea of choosing a different second move for black was a good idea. Perhaps you could alter the starting position  - with an engine of course.

Tapani

Here is two goodies from a game I played a few weeks ago:

of course my opponent did not recapture, but the recapture is made here to in order to make sure the person who does the tactic understands why the initial capture is good.

Later in the same game, the following happens:

Both situations are checked with Rybka 3, white's moves are the best with at least +1.5 margin.

Daeru

Here is one I got in a game:

Thankyou Tapani and Daeru

3rd puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=95795

4th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=68735

(I removed the knight on c3 Tapani, and moved the g pawn Daeru to remove competing good lines)

I've expanded the wording on the criteria at the start of my posting because it wasn't clear that the second best move should have a value of less than 0.3.

Nate, have you checked your puzzles with an engine ?

Tapani

Thank you Katonas:

does that <0.3 rule apply even when the winning line is mating?

Here is another one... I'll post Rybka analysis in next post.
