Very nice.

However, on the second tactic (id=237885) there is an error. White's first move 1. Qf4+ is a blunder - of course the correct move is 1. Rh7+ when a mate in 3 ensues (too bad for the 10 people who attempted to solve it already).

I think the tactic is to defend the position as black after white's error- you play black in that tactic.

Thanks. Yes I didn't realize this at the time.

here is the one without any sidelines or anything. actually Black resigned in the middle of the tactic.

that is the puzzle

What if 2...Qxc4+ ? Also, what if 3...Nf7 ?

Thankyou shoopi

Jetfighter13, 2.e6 and 2.exf6 are both stronger than 2.d6.

Legopirate, your puzzle doesn’t load for some reason. I just see a spinning square saying ‘loading’. Please ensure it has been checked with an engine for competing winning lines before re-posting.

It's not my puzzle. I'm quoting jetfighter13.

Another puzzle from an otb game of mine last year, Black just played Nf5-d4+??

This variation might be able to make another tactic. Unfortunately it can't continue another move with 2...Kd5 because both 3.Ne3+ and 3.Nb6+ are good.

piphilologist

and another from an otb game, white just played e6-e7??

I havent got an engine to check any of these puzzles with but pretty sure there are no alternative moves

Here's another one (altered) from a recent game:

And another otb game, Opponent just played Ke6-f6?? in time-trouble. Again im pretty sure these are all only winning moves.

Nice games piphilologist. On the last one you can also add 3... f4 4. g4.

I didnt because i didnt think f4 was the most challenging black move, other moves make whites task more difficult

Finally analyzed these with a computer, and here are the results.

Tactics from game link. Move 10 till move 13 (black move included) works.

Rook sac FTW. Works from move 17 till end of game

Dutch trap. move 2 till end works.

I'll do the others later.

jbzdarkid

I missed this wonderful combo in-game, but can you see it?

I ran this through an analyzer--but there's clearly no better moves for white or black. Game source: http://www.chess.com/livechess/game.html?id=320145239

16th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=252373 Thankyou piphilologist, I like this puzzle (that poor rook…)

(pawn removed from each side to allow the problem to continue beyond 1 move, as otherwise f4 provided a competing good line)

In the second puzzle both 2..b4 and 2..h3 are drawing.

17th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=293393 Thankyou shoopi, a nice challenging puzzle.

in problem 3 piphilogist after 3.f4 4.g4 how does white force a win ?

18th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=401137  Thankyou nate123, a nice puzzle.

Unfortunately g5 and Qb6 are both winning in ‘tactic from game2’, and in ‘Rook sacrifice’ – there are at least 4 other winning alternatives to the first move.

Jbzdarkid there are at least 4 winning alternatives to Nd6, with Nf6 being +10.5

19th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=407305 Thankyou Daeru. I chose to allow the easy win for black to allow the problem to continue and be conclusive. I’m sure you’ll do a better job than I (you're a stronger player than I am) explaining to TT users how white still wins if white plays 4Rc2.

maybe you could move the king from g4 to h3 to remove the alternative solution?

20th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=321913 Thankyou piphilologist. Don't worry about the other puzzle. You've reminded me I ought to start using a tablebase.
