Puzzles ratings

So I’ve heard many things but I now my chaotic mind is wanting to make it into statistics but besides that what is a way you recommend getting higher into puzzles after they get hard because by then you have reached the correct rating about since you are starting to struggle I’ve heard a very common answer of start taking time on the puzzles to under stand the answer and why that is the answer etc. I really just want to know what the most common and productive way of improving puzzles rating is (as I’m constantly stuck in 1200).

You should always try to understand the puzzle and if you didn't solve it correctly, then take it to the analysis board to find out what you missed and why that solution is best and similarly why your incorrect answer wasn't as good.

Based on the features of the chess position, you might also be able to find other "clues" which help you navigate the position. For example, if you are down by a bunch of material, then you know the puzzle solution is probably a forced checkmate, or a tactic which wins their Queen or something big because you are down by a lot of material.

One general tip of advice in puzzles (as well as in a real game) is to always consider checks, captures and threats (usually in that order) because this will help you calculate the more forcing options first and this usually gives you a better idea of what the puzzle might be about.

This is what I mostly hear and I have tested it and it works especially when you have as much time as you want.

Don't worry about the time too much because you'll naturally begin to see the ideas a little faster with experience and this will lower your time.

It looks to me like the ratings of each puzzle are often way off--easy puzzles with high ratings, and vice versa. Or am I misunderstanding what the ratings are supposed to indicate?

I’m assuming you are talking about the rating chess.com gives puzzles and the reason they seem off is either because you are familiar with that line or pattern. Or it’s something they see in that rating but not in others. There might be more possibilities but I’m not sure what they could be right now.

Thanks, yes, that's what I meant. To elaborate, the ratings are often out of line with the success rate. I know they give harder puzzles to more advanced players. That should reduce differences in success rate, but success rate should still correlate with difficulty.

What i have been doing is doing puzzles rated 2000-3000 in custom puzzles to practice harder puzzles and it does show me lines I don’t see very often this should help you see how the ratings work.
