Puzzles//tactics//rated... unrated puzzles?

I don’t understand... you said “the second attempt has no effect on my rating”? I lost 32 points in those 3 games — is that correct? AND why do they call the puzzle unrated... does that not conflict with the existing terminology for new unrated puzzles? It is not very intuitive or is it just me? I am “special” if you recall happy.png

All else being equal, I think we are probably on common ground now... do you want to delete this topic or shall I? it seems like a lot of reading for much-ado-about-nothing. Good job deciphering my rambling explanations.

Hey i am sorry I am doing such a crap job explaining sad.png

I made a video for you that I think will help explain much better: http://somup.com/cq1iF5ndZM

Please let me know if that helps!

A VIDEO just for me... I told you I was special hahahahaha

clear as a bell thank you very much. I have great faith that you and your team will make this interface more intuitive in the future. If it wasn’t for evolution, the little things would never be taken care of...

Again, great job, best regards

CONCLUSION: The technical support on this site is exceptional...

if you were lucky enough to have read this far and you are a newby or are having problems getting ahead in rated tactics, then please see jdcannons video https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cq1iF5TxAC.

As soon as you make a wrong move or take a hint, you lose all the points you are going to lose. You may then continue seeking the solution and take as many hints as you want without losing any more points.

i was so intensely focused on playing the puzzle that I was not learning the software, mostly because the software for this particular puzzle is not very intuitive. There is no help on the puzzle interface to guide you which worries me that a guaranteed number of people are going to be discouraged like I was and not everyone is going to be as persistent in seeking help as I was.

THIS PUZZLE NEEDS A HELP BUTTON for people like me, who after 500 puzzles, still didn’t get it (my life as a software programmer didn’t help).

That being said, the technical support on this site is exceptional which makes all the difference.

Thus, don’t take hints and don’t make wrong moves and you will lose very few points, if any. In other words, play like your life depends on it!!!

In fact, I just had a visitor at the door and left the timer on a game running for 16 minutes. Then I came back and solved the puzzle and I was awarded with one point. Your patience is rewarded...

these things must be documented, because I can’t be the only one who was unwittingly throwing points away...

But more than that - this is generally bad UX in that its not what the user expects to happen and takes a dedicated video to explain. Can we improve on the overall experience here? It should be clear what puzzles provide points vs dont.
