No, that doesn't help. Do you understand what a proof game is? It's a series of legal moves starting from the initial array to reach a specified position, to prove that the position is legal. It has nothing to do with a game being won or lost or drawn.

I won't be attempting to solve any more of your shortest proof game challenges.

Here's a try at Rewan's position #507. I think it might be about four moves too long, but I wanted to show the position is legal, and also thought by working on it, I might convince Rewan to reply to my #501 question.

I think this position is illegal.
Pawns d7 and b7 have not moved, so Bc8 must be captured by a white knight.
White must have promoted 4 bishops and 1 rook.
Pawns a2 and b2 cannot have promoted.
Pawns c2 and d2 must have been sacrificed to bring pawn e7 to c5.
So 4 white pawns e2 f2 g2 h2 must have promoted to 5 pieces BBBBR, which is impossible.

I told YidingL1 at #510 that #509 is illegal, and his reply was THEY ARE POSSIBLE. THEY ARE JUST HARD TO FIND. But you are correct, it really is illegal.

Here is another explanation for the illegality of #509. After the black e-pawn makes two captures to reach c5, Black has only one capture left to remove the white a and b pawns, neither of which could have promoted, since White only gets to make two captures.
