In addition I tried to make long sequences of consecutive moves by the same piece, which I find aesthetically pleasing.

Can anyone improve on the number (29+21=50) of consecutive moves by the same piece in a shortest proof game? (and btw, how do I format in fixed font?)

It seems you can select the font size and color and style, but not the font itself. So you can't avoid a proportional font or having <enter> produce double spacing. If you type in 10 zeroes and 10 ones and 10 O's and 10 I's, with the groups separated by <enter>, it comes out like this.

These are supposed to be legal positions. There's another thread where you can post an illegal position and challenge others to explain why it's illegal.

2 checks btw

and where does the pawn come from?

The white king had no path to a8.

so many illegal reasons, that could have a record

How many reasons are there for the position to be illegal? I see two main things. The white king can't reach a8, as tygxc said. And none of the bishops can reach the squares they're on. If you put the white king somewhere it can get to and remove the bishops, the position is legal. Here's an unshortened proof game.

If the bishops were at c8 and f8 then it would be possible to get there by promoting the c- and f-pawns.
If pawn h7 were lacking, then the white king would be able to get to a8.

This position is legal:

Let's look at the original position with the white bishops moved to c8 and f8 and the h7 pawn removed.  Are you suggesting it would make the position legal?

No, you still have to remove 2 bishops: either both black or both white or one white and one black.

illegal reasons counter is the number of pieces (least for the position) you need to move/remove/add to the position to make it legal

Very nice.
I think it is shortest indeed: no way to improve on black's moves.
