Stealing puzzle ideas from stockfish


I tricked my opponent into capturing a knight with his pawn rather than his bishop 1 or 2 moves prior to this position. We both found the first black moves, but after I'd played white's response to the 2nd move neither of us saw how black could still escape.

Kb1 traps the rook.
Yeah it's very simple once you see it, but I was so focused on looking for a mate I didn't think of anything else. You have to realize there's nothing but stalemate, and I didn't trust myself enough to think that there wasn't some idea I'd missed. I ending up choosing to stalemate because I also never switched my mindset to think about checkmate not being the only option. Very instructive for me personally.

I learned about those things when I was 1500, so I will say 90% I will find this move. But yes it is really instructive for others below 1500.
