NOT mate!

It sure is mate, all white pawns are in the 7th rank, not in the 2nd. But I think these kind of problems are called help-mate.

REALLY funny lol, I think it's white to move...Laughing

It is checkmate, and it's not a help mate (white only has four legal moves, none of which do anything to defend against the impending smother-mate), it's just more of a trick than a puzzle.

Those white pawns moves upwards, not downwards (they are not on their initial position).
I liked that puzzle ...although it would never happen in a real game.

I think it doesn't matter where the pawns are going. It is funny, anyway.

Hilarious!  If you didn't get it right away, I think that was the point.

Both good problems. I'd like very much to see a proof game of that first one, though...would be interesting.

There is a way to happen. If you want, I will create one and post it.

I'm sure this isn't the optimal way, but I just made moves in Winboard until I caused this position:

RandomPrecision, thanks for posting that.

That first puzzle is PURE AWESOME. LOL.  You've got to love a puzzle where, after you show the solution... people are still: "NO. YOU IDJIT. NOT MATE." LOL. What makes it rock is that it's _not_ a help mate. (From the starting postion... obviously getting into the starting position required, if not help *ahem* less-than-ideal play from white ;)

The second puzzle is an old classic that soviet trainers would pull out to encourage their pupils to not make assumptions.

 Talking to yourself?

Both puzzles are awesome. My first thought was "Wow...this guy must be confused." followed by "I want a lamborghini" followed by "Man I need to pee" followed by "Wait a second -- ROFL", followed by "Man, I really need to pee.".

likesforests can provide a proof game in 10 minutes for this. But he is too busy with teaching 'My System' now.

[he provided proof game for my 16Qs on board mate-in-4 problem as well as 18 queens on board within 20 minutes of request:
