White to move and NOT checkmate in one
i guess you meant the white side is playing, but i still found hte only escape for black that doesnt checkmate on the spot, so must make me legendary
I saw this chess puzzle in one of my mathematical puzzle books. If anyone wants to know the author, just message me.
So, here is another one: White to move and NOT checkmate in one.
Nice thinking and nice puzzle!
I think some of you guys are confused with my puzzle
we need to NOT checkmate in one and white pawns moving upwards btw
and it is white to move as I said above the picture
White resigns because he accidentally promoted to bishop
White pawns moving upwards 😂😂😂
which you did not clearly state in the last puzzle, which makes my black avoiding mate in 1 that much more legendary lol

Thanks! There's one more checkmate in my diagram than in the original in post #1 but the first position is more elegant. The solutions are quite different though. On the internet are problems where every move is checkmate and they are easy to convert to our type by adding say a modest pawn which obviously does not mate and can play just 1 move. However the fun is to do something special with the solution move like the 2 compositions in this thread!

Which one will it be? Checkmate or en passant?

Why turn an instruction into a question? Btw, to consider e.p. you must be able to prove it. Can you?

Just to clarify, Kd6-Ke7 isn’t valid because of the bishop on d8 giving check, correct?

Correct! If black were on move in that position he would have to capture the white king instead of playing Kd6-e7 which is of course ridiculous!. Unless he could capture something by Kd6xe7 but no suitable white material is available.
Every move leads to checkmate for white...except for one! Try to find it!
