A Castle Obsession

As chess players, we know what it is like to enjoy hobbies with medieval trappings.  But imagine how lucky you are not to be obsessed to the point of actually needing to own a medieval castle!  Check out this article:

A Medieval Castle in America

Vintner Daryl Sattui is so obsessed with castles, he has used his life savings not to build a fake castle, but to build an actual castle using the same materials and techniques that they had used during medieval Europe!  And like the real deal, this castle has taken over a decade to approach completion!

Take a look at the size of that Rook!   I wonder if Mr. Sattui likes to play chess....

I think I'll stick with Chess and Medival II: Total War.  Laughing

That thing is massive too, encompassing 121,000 square feet on eight stories, four above ground and four below (including two acres of underground cellars and chambers), with 107 rooms. It took over 8,000 tons of stone plus additional medieval-era bricks imported from Europe to build the basic structure!

I wonder what the source of the layout design is?

By the way have you tried Stronghold? Medieval II is fun but I like this castle-builder.

That's a good question and I don't believe the article addressed it.

I haven't tried Stronghold, however today I published a news blurb about the new version:

Gamesquad

It looks like fun!
