I would say that I’m in group 4.

That's disappointing. I credited you with higher intelligence and social awareness.

Not being delusional and realizing that climate change is a problem puts me above a fair amount of people. Though, since I’m so young, I honestly don’t really care. I could say group number two, but I wanted to answer honestly instead of pretending.

You a part of the generation likely to deal with the worst of it and you don't care?

That’s right. But it’s not just me. If you ask 100 15-year-olds the same question you did in the first post, most of them would say 4, and maybe a few 2s sprinkled in. Why? Because we’re too young to understand the effects of climate change on us. For now, the world is just fine, and we go to school and get on with our day. Very few people are willing to try and do something this young. I may feel differently when I’m older, but for now, I’m alive and the earth is still revolving around the sun. So no, I don’t really care.

It's really a case of apathy. I could make a difference, but it would be so small that it'd be nearly insignificant...

4 billion people, each doing something small.

Nah, I'm not denying that the climate is changing. But it's a tiny difference in temperature and it's not going to be a huge problem, if a problem at all.

Then your science teacher has failed to educate you.

Science teachers don’t teach us about climate change, actually. In my 161 days of biology class this year, I’ve learned not one thing about climate change. I read through Elroch’s thread a lot, and that’s where I get my information.

I have a great idea! If you care so much about the environment and climate change, why don't you get out into the world and do something! Don't make hostile threads online, go outside and pick up trash, do something!

I have an idea too. Why not understand you have no clue who I am or what I do?

I repeated, for you, I only wanted to determine, if I could, how many people are in each group. If that sounds hostile to you you failed more than science. You missed out on social skills too.

Thank your home school teachers for that.

It's not very likely a biology class would cover climatology.

True. But wouldn’t it be good if kids knew about the effects of climate change by learning it in school? It could people like me who don’t really care.

Climate change is a very politically confused issue right now. It may be that your school or state officials don't want it discussed.

Okay, here's my belief in a nutshell. I believe that God created the earth and everything in it in six days. I believe He has a plan for each and every single one of us and that He has a plan for this earth. Because I know God has a plan, i don't care as much about what 'science' says about this issue, because God will take care of it. My purpose in life has very little to do with climate change, and as such I'm not going to worry about it.

Avatar of Actually_Forgot_My_Name

Maybe they could speak about it in a more general sense, like how greenhouse gases can affect the atmosphere, and how ice ages happen?

Avatar of theeldest1

And don't you say that I'm uneducated or that homeschooling has failed me and left me in this 'sorry state', because when you went to school you were taught a world view as well. And judging from this thread, you were taught well. Each of us wears a pair of 'worldview glasses', a lens of worldview through which we see the world and everything in it. Mine is different to yours.

So, long story short, you don’t believe in science. You seem to have a promising future ahead of you.

While I would normally say that you shouldn't post it for religion, you're simply referencing Genesis, and I don't think you intend to spark debate. If this thread does get locked, it'd probably be caused by political talk.

But it's not a good idea to completely toss aside science, that belief will only cause you more harm than good.

Avatar of theeldest1

Lol, what science am I tossing aside?

Avatar of BasixWhiteBoy
That hurt to read. All you’re saying with it is that you’re disregarding what science says, causing you to somehow believe that climate change also doesn’t have any impacts. It’s not too late to realize you’re wrong and to change your mindset.

Science is the process of running experiments to test things, right?

That's certainly a part of science, but that does not paint the entire picture of it.

Science therefore can't say anything about the past, because you can't test something that happened 'millions' of years ago

You can get a good guess, but without human records, it's impossible to know what happened millions or even billions of years ago. But still, science can help past things become a little more clear, even if they aren't 100% accurate.

I've done more research than you think, and when science is used correctly, it can be a powerful tool to understand the past. But it can't tell you what happened in the past.

Just like how it can't exactly tell you what will happen in the future. Weather forecasts are a form of science, and while they can make good guesses as to what the weather will be like, it isn't completely accurate.

The difference is in our ages. I grew out of the things told to me as truths when I was young. My experiences in the world since have taught me to distiguish fact from fiction.

Do not continue to post religious commentary or the thread will be locked by the site.
