ha! i love this line in the article:
Petro suggested either renting a boat and driving it to the middle of the Indian Ocean or visiting relatives in Ethiopia for the "best seat in the house."

I didn't get to see this! While all the excitement was going on I was in the dentist's chair getting a crown.
Sheesh. It's 4:05 p.m. and the temperature here at the Phailure Ranch is (-7.2)°F [-22°C] . The forecast low for tonight is (-26)°F [-32°C] .
Three of the next four days have forecast highs below zero F . We won't see the temperature above 10°F until next weekend.
Deju vu all over again. It's just about 4:00 p.m., same as for yesterday (two posts ago), and the temperature at the Phailure Ranch is identical to 24 hours ago: (-7.2)°F. Last night's low here was (-23.6)°F.
this topic is the opposite for you guys on the underside of the globe!
(or, flat earth, if you will)
Thank God for global warming or it would much cooooolder.
coming soon to capitol hill (again)-a representative displays a snowball as evidence of no agw!
Here's my equivalent of one of Al's alligator experiences. Yesterday at 2:30 p.m. I saw a bear knock over the trash can ~20 feet in front of the front window. He took an entire bag of garbage and hauled it off toward the next lot. A few minutes later he came back and got a second bag and hauled it in the same direction. From my angle I couldn't see anything unusual, but neighbors who were also visited by this fellow report that he has only 3 legs. I don't know which one is missing. The DNR has been alerted and we're hoping he'll be a candidate for capturing and hauling his ass off somewhere else, as he's too comfortable in this area.
As of December 03, the Soo had received only 26 inches of snow so far this season. The highest in the region is 58.6" at Chatham (between Marquette and Munising) and 55.1" at Munising. Another 3 inches or so fell at the Phailure Ranch this past afternoon.
The day before Thanksgiving we had a decent windstorm that knocked out power to more than 10,000 electrical accounts in a 3-county region with only 37,000 people. At noon on Thanksgiving there were still more than 5,000 households with no power. Fortunately it was pretty warm (right around freezing) during most of the outage period, so there shouldn't have been any problems with frozen pipes anywhere.
77°F here this past afternoon! That's the first time above 70° this year, and only the 5th day above 60°. There are still good snow patches in the yard and on the roof, and as of Monday there were still some parking lots in town with plowed up snow banks higher than cars. Those banks may be a lot shorter now-- a single day at today's temperatures can do a lot of damage to the remaining snow.
