An Open Letter to mylifeisveryboring

Why has America been unable to produce a decent Metal band? Please dont attempt to proffer Guns 'n Pansies, they were a pop band or Metallica for they too were wussies.
European metal is a little weak.
America took metal and turned all the dudes into chicks! Look at Cinderella for goodness sake! As for Europe we always had Saxon, they carried the genre. After Di'anno was booted Maiden became wussbags, seriously, I cannot listen to any Maiden after the first two albums, its just not the same, like AC/DC without Bon Scott. Of course you have the German and Norwegian metal bands but they seem to me to be more like a parody of metal, no one can take them seriously. Metal was dead when Cobain high on the punk ethos kicked Jackson from the charts. Those of us who remember it breathed a sigh of relief, the plastic pretentiousness of the eighties was gone - grunge was real and we could identify with it. But Kurt could not be himself and keep the punk ethos alive, the hypocrisy of it was too much for him and he decided the best thing was to give it up. What were we left with, boy band Greenday? a poor substitute for the real thing. At least there is Hendrix.

God bless Hendrix. Awesome.
There's no real 'tone' is what he sings, is there?
I could agree with the fact that he is the missing link between noise and music, though... Maybe it would sound more acceptable without that guitar of whatever you may call it? ;)

You're stuck in the eighties! There have been many tremendous metal acts since then. Did you listen to any of my links?

Kaynight, when I say there is no tone, there is no tone. :)
Seriously, Can we agree on Bach writing good music? Or more rough: Tom Waits? Leonard Cohen? I'm not that difficult, you see, and at least I understand what they are singing. No need to drown out the lyrics with a screaming guitar.

Do you understand songs in English?!
In all honesty: Yes! Yes! Yes! If it isn't Scottish or another slang ;)

I'm just teasing him. My Scottish is fluent as are my other dialects :)
I do like the Metallica song about that landmine though. Can't recall the title but it has a great drum solo in it.

The term "just saying" needs to dropped from written and verbal communication.
The badger song has been dropped from written and verbal communications for over a decade...so why are you still here? ;)

In what universe was Cinderella ever considered heavy metal by anyone that matters? Glam bands with giant hair that sing ballads != heavy metal. Green Day is not metal, either.

First of all my logically challenged friend, NO ONE has claimed Greenday is a metal band. Secondly Cinderella was put in a historical context to demonstrate just how far metal had descended into nothing more than a pantomime by the Americans. This trend of glam has also been noted by others. Cinderella was merely provided as an example of just how far removed the genre had become from its roots The Americans still have not produced a decent metal band and none that have been proffered so far refute the assertion.

I think metal is a combination of punk, new wave, and grunge with a lot of anger. And since you said that the US has no decent metal bands, maybe the world is a lot angryer than the US. I can't argue any of those styles because I really know nothing about them. I'm into jazz, but I'm embarrassed because Disco was created by a drummer.

Cinderella is does not represent any "descending of the metal genre" because they were never a metal band. If anything, they were inspired by the likes of Van Halen, Ratt, and Quiet Riot. They are a glam rock band with big 80s hair.
You mentioned Saxon, but bands like Saxon and Accept, much like Diamondhead, Mercyful Fate, Sweet Savage, Venom, et al were toiling in near obscurity until Metallica came along.
Priest, Maiden, and Motorhead were not doing that much better. In fact Priest had given up the ship and sold out with their Screaming for Vengeance album and became a hard rock band.

Nationalism is so weird.
