He has been here since 1/6/2010. He came out of his cocoon this year and has amazed everybody but I guess all wonderful butterflies sooner or later just disappear.

As long as we're entertained we're happy. Could there be another way?

Nikprit, author of the "Anger Management for Chess.com Members thread", is no more. He has ceased to be. Bereft of life, he rests in peace. He's kicked the bucket, hopped the twig, bit the dust, snuffed it, breathed his last, and gone to meet the great Caïssa in the sky. And I guess that we're all thinking how sad it is that a man of such talent, of such capability for kindness, of such unusual intelligence, should now so suddenly be spirited away at this age, before he'd achieved many of the things of which he was capable, and before he'd had enough fun.

Well, I feel that I should say: nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard, I hope he fries.

And the reason I feel I should say this is he would never forgive me if I didn't, if I threw away this glorious opportunity to shock you all on his behalf. Anything for him but mindless good taste.

Wait, Nikprit just whispered something in my ear... All right, Baldrick. You said you're very proud of being the very first person ever to say 'shit' on Chess.com. If this service is really for me, just for starters, I want you to become the first person ever at a Chess.com memorial service to say 'fuck'.

(thx, John Cleese)

Sorry, that prize went to someone else Baldrick.  Besides, we've all heard all those 'grown up' terms before so deffo no prizes. I'm sure that Nik will still be available for private messages.  He'd told us from the outset that the mission was to expose the trolls here and that's been done, though it has to be said that they did a great job on themselves, and still are from the bits I've seen on other threads.

As the old saying goes, 'give em enough rope and they'll hang themselves'.  In future, people here will realise that the 'annoying chimps' have nothing better to do, have only the mind of adolescents and should therefore be regarded as such and ignored.

mdinnerspace

@Firstplay... expose trolls??? I think not. In fact, I know not.

Trolls have their own threads, their own groups, their own get-togethers well outside this thread. Sure, a few showed here, but soon departed. No feed back to perpetuate their attention seeking. The OP would block any nonsense. There exists groups, teams, threads of trolls viewing to out insult the other. Funny stuff for 30 secs., then becomes quite pathetic.

Firstplay

I agree with all those comments, but that's how this one started due to a few of em thinking they could insult a few of us.  Take a look at Niks analysis of them; it's really accurate, and funny.

Ghostliner

It's all been good, however some unanswered questions remain. Who produced those two sucker punches: faking Firstplay's account and Foufou's dummy "apology"?

I agree with Nik I also feel it was the same person, but who was it?

Same person, 2 fake accounts. 1st, Firstplay apologizing to FRENCHBASHER. Next FB apologizes to everyone at CC.

In my book, there is 1 high profile suspect, having created a thread not long ago, basically a who is who, a new account, claiming to be/not to be the infamous 1 liner poster.

mdinnerspace

Btw, Nik was at first completely taken in by the bogus apologies and accounts. Just read his reactions in the threads at first thinking the apologies sincere. Later, he thought accounts were hacked, someone had stolen the password and logged in as the owner. Obviously, FRFNCHBASHER was not the original.

The culprit has the skill set to create new accounts at will. Hacking into CC is not necessary. CC reacts swiftly in closing the accounts of imitation usernames.

IamBaldrick

You keep posting facts incorrectly, mdinnerspace.

CC DIDN'T close these accounts. They were closed by the person/persons who opened them themselves. Like anyone could get CC to do anything quickly, haha.

I also don't believe for a second that those 2 accounts were created by the same person. The modus operandi was not at all similar. Neither of them seemed malicious and were in fact quite funny.

Also, opening a new account and copy/pasting a profile pic. requires hardly any skill and can be done in 60 seconds. Any 8 year old could do it.

Firstplay

No to the first.  Nice butty.   Wink

I stand by it was the same person, modus operandi was in fact similiar. The "copy and paste, closely duplicating a username" is indeed easy, as I alluded to. It is not that easy to open a 2nd account on the same computer. Some tech skills are needed to mask the original account. I agree, it was somewhat funny, not malicious. As to who closed the accoynts it's speculation. The 1st one was open nearly a day, the 2nd was closed immediately.

I feel Nikprit furthered some of the hysteria by claiming it was an act of hacking in his funny account of the Usual Suspects.

mdinnerspace

I take some of the hit for the fiasco. On a thread I spoke of a gaming site, years ago, Flipside. Members were allowed an unlimited amount of usernames to log in with, as long as the name was not already taken. You never knew who was who. Using keyboard tricks, usernames were closely copied. It was utter chaos.

Very shortly thereafter, imitated accounts showed up here, each apologizing to the other. Supports it was 1 persons idea of humor.

Psychiatrist : Nurse! Bring in another chair!

Dr:  Have you had this before?

Patient: Yes Dr.

Dr: Well you've got it again.

Complete nonsense. You really have no idea what you're talking about.

One simply clicks home --> log out. The very next screen you see is "sign up-it's free". There you go. Anyone can do it.

The posts are still there. If CC would have decided to delete/close they would have been gone. So they closed them themselves.
