I’m not a lawyer.
It’s not clear to me turning someone (or a chess.com profile) into a plushie means. Are the plushies created in their likeness from a profile picture? Are you naming the plishies based on the screen name? Or do those users play a character that you have created the likeness of?
what exactly does “they seemed to be fine with it” mean? Did they explicitly give you permission to create the plushie, sign a formal agreement or say “cool”.
some might consider it flattering. Some might be totally into the creative process. Some might not like the attention or depiction.
if you don’t know them IRL, how well do you know them online? You can’t use someone’s voice or image or likeness to sell a product without their permission. If that permission is not formal they could ask you to stop what you’re doing for whatever reason. Have you done anything wrong? Perhaps you’ve upset an online friend and need to find out why.
So on May 27, I turned the brother-and-sister pair @BCMGF1150 and @penguinieChess into marketable plush toys. They seemed to be fine with it. I have said I plan to start selling plushies of the two of them in November or December, and that I will turn them back into humans on December 14th (or December 15th depending on your timezone). I have already messaged @penguinieChess about the whole ordeal, as her brother blocked me back in June. I am just wondering, did I break any rules by turning them into marketable plushies? (They are 16 and 13, if anyone is wondering, and I do not know them IRL.)
