Very interesting article. Going back 10 or 15 years ago and a hundred years before that, it was always bat down, that's certainly how I batted, tapping it and keeping it on the ground behind my foot as the bowler delivered the ball, but nowadays most batsmen have the bat up in the air. I guess there are advantages and disadvantages for both ways, it's just which one the individual prefers.
