Which came first - the chicken or the egg?

The egg.

my reasoning: the first ever chicken must have hatched out of an egg which has the same DNA as it, so if the chicken is evolved enough to be defined as a chicken the egg must be too.

Nah, if a non-chicken bred with another non-chicken the offspring could be a chicken but not the parents

God created the chicken.

The chicken came first.

And without an egg you have no chicken…Bacteria reproduce by dividing into two cells. Using that as an analogy, the following may have happened: at some point in the evolutionary process, whatever it was that preceded chickens divided into two chickens. Over time, changes happened, which is common in any evolutionary process (Example, frogs have been known to change sex in order to be able to reproduce https://wildlife.org/frogs-change-sex-even-in-natural-settings/), resulting in the chickens we have today. So you could argue that chickens came first.
