Ah thank-goodness for YouTube ! Just came across a clip of Diane Bish and Simon Preston playing the Toccata from Symphony No 5 ( for 2 Organists ) by Charles Widor. There was a standing ovation at the end, well deserved.

Thanks for the posts.

The " march of the trolls " is another fine piece of music .

---   I believe the song that we need at this time in regards to this site would be " Send In The Clowns ! ". There is a very nice version of this song up on YouTube performed by Judy Collins with the Boston Pops Orchestra ( recorded in 1976 ).

Getting back to Diane Bish she used to have her own show on Cable TV as she was very good at playing the Pipe-Organ ( clips are available on YouTube ).

The Planets suite by " Holts " is wonderful.

---   Yes " The Planets " by Gustav Holst is very nice. I guess like most people the section that I remember the best is " 4 / Jupiter ".

Time for a birthday reminder, back in 1863 ( Aug 22cnd ) the one and only Claude Debussy was born ( Reverie anyone ? ).

badenwurtca

Since most of the world is now on September 8th it is time to mention Antonin Dvorak ( born 1841 ).

Thanks for the updates guys ( Btw I'm often behind the times   lol ).

So we all know the usual suspects ( Johann, Joseph, Wolfgang, Ludwig etc etc ) however it is also fun to track down pieces written by lesser known Composers. Earlier today I came across a beautiful Piano Concerto by Nicolai Medtner, very very nice ( his 1st Concerto ).

Getting back to Birthdays today was it for Carl Maria Von Weber ( in 1786 ).

Thanks for the post Kaynight.

Time for another big day, this time back in 1865 with the arrival of the one and only Sibelius.

Thanks for the posts.

Well we have just now crossed over into Dec 11th local time so I will mention Hector Berlioz ( 1803 ).

And we come to the last Birthday for this year and we have a big name going back to the year 1770, yup the one and only Ludwig Van Beethoven.

badenwurtca

Nearly missed one ! The first birthday for the new year was for Mozart ( Jan 27th, 1756 ).

badenwurtca

And if we were to name today it would be Schubert Day ( Jan 31st, 1797 ).

The William Tell Overture was mentioned in another thread recently ( ie: The Gallop, theme for the Lone Ranger TV series ). That brought to mind another couple of lively pieces: the Light Cavalry Overture ( by Franz Von Suppe ) and the Sabre Dance ( by Aran Khachaturian ), keep that Baton moving   lol.
