I'm a bookworm. This thread is dedicated for anything bookish. Not just chess books. Here you can post your favourite books, series, authors, quotes, favourite lines from books, favourite characters, etc. You are also welcome to narrate about your reading life, when and how you first started reading passionately, what book actually got you to reading and many more..

I always liked books since I was a kid. I started reading English literature only recently. But it was always sure to me that books are the true magic of this world. I am one of those persons, who gets immense pleasure just by the mere sight of a book! :)

My favourite books are The Alchemist-Paulo Coelho (Very inspiring and philosophical book), Man Eaters of Kumaon-Jim Corbett ( If you are a lover of wildlife, you should definitely check this out), Hamlet-Shakespeare (I feel like I'm way too small every time I am near this book! "To be or not to be, that's the question".), The Old Man and the Sea-Earnest Hemmingway ( This is one of the most uplifting and inspiring stories ever written about determination and never giving up. It brilliantly reveals the sheer beauty of life, the potential of true will, the clash between man and nature and above all HOPE!), Animal Farm- George Orwell ( This and 1984, which I'm reading now, are two of the most significant books of the 20th century) , Gitanjali- Rabindranath Tagore ( One of the most refreshing poetry ever written, gives us deep insight into life and god) , A Study in Scarlet- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ( Sherlock Holmes is one of the greatest characters literature has ever seen, this is one of those books that will make you speechless with awe and admiration at the masterful story and it's genius execution and the astonishing attention given to detail. Just awesome! ) and last but not the least, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phonix- JK Rowling ( Were do I even start?! Harry Potter books are nothing short of magic, Order of the Phoenix is my favourite of all HP books)

I know that I haven't read even a fraction of the great books, but I am just gettting started and its a wonderful feeling that there are millions of book just lying there silently waiting for you to open them, or rather millions of strange and wonderful worlds waiting for you to enter, I like to put it that way.

I'm a sucker for classics. I like crime, thriller, romance, humor, autobiography, fantasy , travelogue and anything about wildlife. Basically any book that is written well enough to keep me engaged!

For wildlife books I can recommend:

Chimpanzee Politics by Frans de Waal

Whatever You Do, Don't Run by Peter Allison (safari guide stories)

How Monkeys See the World by Cheney and Seyfarth (more of a scientific study, but a very interesting one)

Adventures among Ants by Mark Moffett (I love the scene where the leafcutter ants go to work on his tent)

I've been a bibliophile since learning to read. I actually had a librarian refuse to check out a book to me because she thought it was over my head. It wasn't, so I quit going to that library. I usually have 10-20 books going simultaneously on various subjects: chess (of course), fiction, fishing, biography, physics, etc. Any subject of which I am ignorant is great fodder for reading. Reading, to me, is as necessary as breathing. Read on!

Thanks mkkuhner! I'll definitely check them out.

I looked it up on goodreads, it has average rating of 4.13 out of five from 80k ratings, that's good, and the story seems interesting and adventurous, it has a lot of positive reviews there. Thanks for sharing, added it to my to-read list.

"Fooled by Randomness" by Nassim Taleb, and the Discworld series are some of my favourite books. At age eight I remember my teacher took my book of Lord of the Rings off me so that I would play outside instead of reading😀

That's cool! :D. I watched all the LOTR movies and it's one of the greatest movies ever made. So I can imagine why you'd prefer the books over playing. Thanks for posting. :)

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."

When you play the game of thrones you either win or die, there is no middle ground

Some of the most memorable lines from Shakespeare's Hamlet ,

" Doubt thou the stars are fire

Doubt that the sun doth move

Doubt truth to be a liar,

But never doubt I love!"

"Fore there is nothing either good or bad , but thinking makes it so"

"Use every man after his desert , and who shall 'scape whipping?"

"Ay, truly. For the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty from what it is to a bawd, than the force of honesty can translate beauty into his likeness"

"So think thou wilt no second husband wed , But die thy thoughts when thy first lord is dead"

"My words fly up, my thoughts remain below.

Words without thoughts never to heaven go".

My favorite biography is called "the devil drives" it is a biography of Sir Richard Burton (by the late Fawn Brodie/ but not positive of the correct spelling of her last name). He was a very interesting fellow. He is best known for his exploration of Africa as well as his  literal translation of the Arabian Nights.

When i was much younger i also read many of the novels by Hermann Hesse.

I love to read books as well but over the years i have bought so many books that i doubt  if i could read them all in the next 20 years but still i find myself buying more books. Usually they come from the half price book store and often from the clearance section so the money involved is not a problem. Also i have bunches of books on my tablet. Mainly i now read history books but sometimes science fiction or horror.

As far as Shakespeare goes although Hamlet is great my favorite is MacBeth. I do not care for his comedies (although to be fair i have read only a few such as "As you like it").i also do not like the play "King Lear" .

As far as history books go i like any about Alexander the Great,William Shriver has a great book called "The Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich" and Albert Speer's book "Inside the 3rd Reich". I have enjoyed Sherlock Holmes and when i was young i read all the James Bond books.
