chess and checkers obsession

Hi. Not only am I a chess player but I'm also a checkers player and although this site is about chess, why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone? I've written about the topic of my chess obsession before but have not gotten help with it. And it's possible I have an answer for it and my checkers obsession but not a comfortable answer. The problem is I have outside things I'm working on in my life like reading, improving health etc and I think about chess and checkers a lot to the point in which when I'm trying to focus on other things chess and checkers get in the way because thoughts of them come up while I'm trying to read for example. And I thought an answer was limit chess and checkers to 3 days a week 3 hours per day and to not think about them as much. And although that has worked with checkers, it's not a comfortable answer. Why can't I play chess and checkers more without it being a problem. If other people can do it, why can't I? I do have some issues going on that may explain it that I am not comfortable putting down here. You should also know that chess and checkers and a lot more so chess are things that I am quite good at it and I've been kind of passionate about them for years. I'm an excellent chess player and you'd think I'd be very passionate about it but I'm not and still haven't figured out why. But it's been my thing and something I focus very well on. And the amount of focus I direct onto it compared to the rest of my life has always generally been the majority of it. Maybe that's part of the explanation.
