In fact, some of us just don't like to hear BAD jokes.
I worked in the humor industry for twenty years, making cartoons for international television. One point that I learned and retained is that "jokes" are usually associated with "humor".
A lesson that cartoonists learn is that
Dome people take EVERYTHING seriously

I can observe that majority of adult chess lovers have grave personality. They don't like to speak or hear jokes. Some are easily offended. I can see comments in the Off Topic like "This is a chess site, post elsewhere". Some say "Chess is for Nerds'. In reality "Chess is a hobby for those with grave personality".
