Chess Battles

This idea came to me while I was cleaning my room/ reading about the battle of Stalingrad. How about those here who are interested in history and chess make simulations of major historical battles on a chessboard (if you get what I'm trying to say).

For example a recreation could be made of the battle of Stalingrad of how after numerous defeats the Soviets managed to expel the Nazis. This way we will also be able to explore the "what if" elements (excuse my wording).

Imagine how much this may motivate people to explore certain chess positions and learn more about historical events and since chess is after all a war game this should not be very difficult.

The only problem I see is that a real - life war is a lot bigger in scale to a mere chess game and is a lot more detailed.

You can give any chess piece any name you want for example a pawn can be the common infantry whereas a rook in this case may be the airforce or if you are looking to recreate ancient battles than like its appearance dictates a castle or some other type of elite unit.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for history lesson. I perfer to think the rook as fortress, bishop as clergy/priest, knights as calvary and pawns as infantry.
