Chess debate
Wat are all ur opinions?
i believe more people would rather be"cool" than intellectual. a sad commentary on the american way of life and a continuation of the dumbing down of america. i personally play pc games, poker, and chess. no one aspect dominates my life-everything in moderation. on the other side of the coin,i wonder if intellectuals say they play chess but are really bored with it and in order to"fit in" they say they play?
I agree that most people would rather be cool than smart, and America is getting dumber by the second. If you disagree, check out this video, and all of your hope for the future of America will go down the tubes.

On a brighter note, I don't think that many intellectuals play chess just to fit in. I guess some probably do, but I doubt that a lot do it, because playing chess is going to make you more unpopular with certain groups (the "cool" people) than it will make you popular with other groups (the intellectuals).
Being good at chess doesn't necessarily equal overall intelligence.
And it's pretty obvious that right now the most people play chess, because even if the percentage has been the same for the past two centuries, the number of people in the world has increased exponentially.
I don't know where you guys come from, but in my little community intelligence is rewarded more than "being cool".
Neither one could win a game of chess. I'd say the game would end in a draw.
or a fool's mate!

Funny!

I totally agree, neither could finish because of some stupid event and or attention span failure's.
It's true, most people aren't interested in something that is going to take a lifetime to master. Some are smart enough to grasp how the pieces move in a few minutes... but how the pieces work together... it really is rare that someone wants to spend their afternoon on something they aren't going to feel some sense of accomplishment on. At the end of the afternoon they may have lost a few games of chess, they won't see it from the onset as the beginning to a lifelong endeavor... which is what chess really is for most of us.
The rules of the game can be learned in an afternoon.. the ideas that make up chess take a lifetime.
